Jansal Valley® Star Anise
This unique spice is native to China and comes from an evergreen tree. The tree bears yellow star-shaped flowers that ripen into the familiar brown-colored spice that is used through Chinese and Vietnamese cooking. Star anise has a more robust licorice flavor than the similarly flavored anise seed. Use ground or whole (remove after cooking or use as a garnish). Use with chicken, fish, shellfish, rice pudding, steamed cabbage.
