NEW BEDFORD, Mass., - Beginning on October 7, Sid Wainer & Son will offer cooking classes to the public at the Gourmet Outlet located at 2301 Purchase Street in New Bedford. The classes will be taught in a fun and informative way, and will include a tasting of the dishes demonstrated. Participation in each class will be $25 per person with all proceeds being donated to local hunger relief organizations. Classes will be taught by the Sid Wainer & Son chefs, along with special guest chefs, throughout the fall and winter. Classes will be held every other week from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. with themes such as “Tastes of New Bedford” (October 7), “Octoberfest Menu Items” (October 21), “Warm Up with Soups” (November 4), “Perfect Thanksgiving Additions” (November 18), “Christmas Party Food Ideas” (December 16), and “New Year’s Eve Appetizers” (December 30). Class sizes are limited and pre-registration at the Gourmet Outlet is required.

“We spend our days thinking about how to best supply high quality produce and specialty foods to chefs around the world. That led us to start thinking about how we could help supply food to those in need right here at home,” explained Henry Wainer, President of Sid Wainer & Son. Over the past year, Sid Wainer & Son has donated nearly $100,000 worth of food to local food banks. Allie Wainer, the fourth generation to join Sid Wainer & Son, added, “The cooking classes add a really fun way for the public to get involved in raising funds for local food banks as well, especially as we move into the winter. Many of us spend more time thinking about food and holiday entertaining, but it becomes even harder for people to make ends meet as temperatures drop.”

The Sid Wainer & Son chefs are looking forward to sharing their skills with the public at The Gourmet Outlet classes. The Gourmet Outlet was started by Henry Wainer to offer the public the same wonderful specialty food items that are available to chefs throughout the country on a daily basis. The company views the Gourmet Outlet as a way to support the community, interact directly with family and friends, and to test market new items. Local chefs can often be found at the Gourmet Outlet, shopping and tasting new food.
