NEW BEDFORD, Mass., - For the second time, Sid Wainer & Son took first prize in the large booth category at New England Produce Council’s Produce & Floral Expo.  This year’s event was held on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Newport Hotel and Spa with the theme of “Farmer’s Market”.  The Sid Wainer & Son booth also took first prize at the 2012 Produce & Floral Expo.

“We wanted the booth to reflect a small European market,” explained Henry Wainer, President of Sid Wainer & Son.  “It was an inspiration based on my scouting trips to France and Italy to search out the highest quality specialty ingredients.”   The booth featured farm fresh produce, as well as dried fruits and nuts, pickled vegetables, artisan cheeses and charcuterie.  Allie Wainer, the fourth generation to join Sid Wainer & Son, added, “We’re known for being able to supply our customers with unique and hard to find produce, so the show was an opportunity to show off some of these beautiful fruits and vegetables.”  These unusual items piqued the interest of show attendees and included dragon fruit, gooseberries, microgreens, and finger limes.  The Jansal Valley® peaches, put out for sampling, garnered rave reviews.

Sid Wainer & Son, a family owned business, was started by Henry Wainer’s grandfather in 1914.  This year, they are celebrating their 100th anniversary.  Sid Wainer & Son procures the finest specialty items from around the world and delivers to customers nationwide.  Additionally, Sid Wainer & Son works closely with local farms to be able to supply locally grown New England fruits and vegetables.  This includes their own Jansal Valley Farm located in Dartmouth and their own greenhouses in New Bedford.
